Radio Mic's and the Digital Switch Over OfCom have announced intentions to completely redefine the allocation of frequency spectrum in the UK with the advent of digital television. The Digital Switchover takes place in 2012 (after the Olympics) and will have a major effect on PMSE (Programme-Making and Special Events) users. Most notably, we will lose the use of Channel 69. All equipment tuned to this band will become unusable (and infact unlawful). Radio mic manufacturers have had no easy task trying to overcome this hurdle. However, it isn't all bad news. All MIPRO equipment we sell on a UHF fixed-frequency will be unaffected as these frequencies fall into deregulated Channel 70 and will remain available for licence-free UK use. Equipment using VHF will also be unaffected by the spectrum changes. Users with a a licence for equipment currently in Channel 69 should have received an updated licence from JFMG, adding channel 38 (the new home for PMSE). From 2011 we will be supplying MIPRO UHF equipment in this band, but if you want to get in early the MIPRO digital range works on bands UK2, UK3, and UK4 which will continue to be available after DSO. |
